About Me

I am an interactive designer and developer with over 9 years commercial expertise of delivering high quality digital content, applications and websites. I am educated to Masters degree level and strive to push the boundaries of digital media through a user-centered design philosophy that allows me to meet and exceed the requirements of my clients and their customers.

I have an entrepreneurial spirit and keen interest in business, finance, human psychology and socio-cultural issues that affect the way people think and act. I try to look at the 'big picture' when taking on new work or advising my clients on what direction to take in the often bewildering world of digital media. To this end, I have many successful and happy clients who appreciate my input on a variety of topics.

After increased demand for my web development services I resumed freelance work in May 2012. My current list of Clients include Crimson Publishing LTD, Positive Bristol and clients in North America.

September 2011 - May 2012

After a successful phase of providing freelance web development resource to Future Publishing based in Bath I was offered the position of web developer in the digital studio department which is an integral part of Future PLCs expanding digital portfolio. Duties vary from full lifecycle website development and more unique activities such as internal systems development and implementation. I have launched various websites for Future PLC such as www.fastcar.co.uk and www.nphotomag.com. Other notable successes of my time at Future was the self-initiated optimisation of sites such as www.sfx.co.uk and www.pcgamer.com, helping improve performance and bandwidth usage by a significant amount, in certain cases the work resulted in performance improvements of over 2000%.

Entrepreneurial ambition is in my blood and since a young age I have been growing businesses and trading goods and services. I began by buying, fixing and trading musical instruments. When I turned 16 I was able to harness my interest of vehicle mechanics with business and began fixing, customising and selling motorbikes.

My most recent entrepreneurial activities are focused on buying, refining and selling digital companies and services, and creating new businesses, establishing market presence and selling said firm for profit.

I worked as a freelance digital designer for seven years producing both front-end user interfaces and back-end systems for various clients including Nesta FutureLab, S-Cool LTD, Bath Spa University and Adam Scott Photography. This period of work involved a diverse mixture of technologies such as Adobe Flash, XML, PHP and W3C standards-based website design with all projects tailored to fit the clients brief.

Redshift evolved from humble beginnings into a full-service digital design agency with an enviable reputation. The role of Multimedia Developer was undertaken during a university sandwich year and involved the development and design of Adobe Flash presentations and animations for screen and CD-based formats. Other duties included cataloguing of stock image archives and standard office duties.

'Friend' is a voluntary sector Community Mental Health Resource Centre serving Weston-super-Mare and North Somerset. The role of part-time Art Teacher involved teaching and planning a curriculum focusing on arts and crafts for adults with mental health difficulties in an informal atmosphere. Other duties included maintaining art stock levels and basic emotional support of adults referred to the service by their doctor.

August 2001 - May 2002

Med Report is a primary provider of medical reports in the legal support services market. The role of data administrator involved various office duties including correspondence with doctors and consultants, and coordination with internal staff and outside agencies when building medical reports relating to a customer's medical insurance claim.

Working for two years at Great Mills provided me with a broad range of experiences. The role of Sales Assistant was focused on high standards of customer service and duties were located on the sales floor of the DIY retailer.
